Avishai Cohen: Mediterranean and Latin Influenced Shalom Aleichem

This live performance presents Avishai Cohen, an Israeli double-bassist, singer and composer, performing a creative rendition of Shalom Aleichem at the International Jazz Festival in Marciac, France. He bases this composition on the opening words of the four stanzas of Shalom Aleichem, traditionally sung before the Kiddush as part of the Shabbat evening dinner ritual. Heavily influenced by Mediterranean and Latin music, Sephardic Jewish traditions, and Ladino culture, Cohen’s music is a unique medley of classical and contemporary sounds from many different cultures. This unique version of Shalom Aleichem is great for those who want to experience something completely new and different.
