In this clip from “Rising Star,” the popular Israeli reality TV show modeled after “American Idol, The Gat Brothers perform an original rendition of Shalom Aleichem. Dressed in traditional Hasidic Ultra Orthodox garb, Arie and Gil Gat have broken stereotypes in Israeli society, drawing tens of thousands of votes and rave reviews from secular fans for their harmonic renditions of both secular and Jewish music. Although the brothers grew up in a secular home in the southern city of Eilat, today they are both married with six children, living in Ultra Orthodox neighborhoods in homes that do not have televisions or any connection to secular culture.
